Things get emotional as the Rainbow singer starts her album promotion…

Kesha gave her first televised interview in years this morning and it was incredibly special. The Learn To Let Go singer kicked off the promo trail for her long-awaited third album Rainbow with an emotional interview and highly charged performances on Good Morning America. A visibly nervous Kesha quickly became emotional when the host asked the meaning behind her comeback single Praying, explaining that the entire album is “so personal” and therefore difficult to speak about.

“This song [Praying] is just very important because it talks about me personally going through something very hard – lots of very hard things – and making it through, not giving up and finding empathy on the other side, which is incredibly hard sometimes.

While Rainbow touches on love, sex and relationships, a lot of the songs are naturally inspired by the singer’s turbulent personal life in recent years and overcoming dark times to find happiness again.

“This record has quite literally saved my life. I hope you guys like it and I hope you can hear it, and I hope it helps people.”

After the interview she performed both Praying and Woman on television for the first time, both of which were totally amazing. Praying was as emotional as expected – seriously, when will we be able to listen to that song without almost crying? – but she sounded fantastic, singing each and every lyric with such intensity and soul that you just know every performance will be a different experience.

The liberating energy of Woman makes the song so enjoyable to watch her perform, and we definitely let out a scream when she sang “I write my hits, baby / I write my hits.” Yes, girl! Say it louder!

We are so glad to have Kesha back and, more importantly, just happy that she is in such a good place. Rainbow – her first album in FIVE years! – drops this Friday (11 Aug) so get your Spotify, Apple Music or whatever else ready!

Tune in NOW! to ABC !! I'm playing some music from my new record RAINBOW🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
