Moby has revealed that he turned down an invitation to DJ one of Donald Trump’s inauguration balls, saying “Hahahahaha”.
With the inauguration, taking place on Friday 20 January, fast approaching, Trump and his team are trying their very best to find someone – anyone – to play.
Currently, the Trump Inauguration Twitter account is tweeting barely any details about the event other than school marching bands playing in the parade and ‘fun’ Presidential-history facts.
Already set to perform is Jackie Evancho, Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy, but finding more artists has proven to be something of a challenge for the incoming American president.
Elton John has publicly, vehemently denied any interest in playing. Vince Neil dropped out. Charlotte Church declined the offer and then called Trump a “tyrant” on Twitter. The Rolling Stones, whose song You Can’t Always Get What You Want was played as Trump was about to deliver his election victory speech, ruled themselves out too.
And now Moby, the DJ and dance music pioneer, is the latest to turn Donald down, saying that he’d only play if Trump “released his tax returns”. Read Moby’s full reaction below.
Hahahahaha, I was just asked by a booking agent if I would consider djing at one of the inaugural balls for #trump… Hahahahaha, wait, Hahahaha, really? I guess I’d DJ at an inaugural ball if as payment #trump released his tax returns. Also I would probably play public enemy and stockhausen remixes to entertain the republicans. I’m still laughing. Hahahaha. So #trump what do you think, I DJ for you and you release your tax returns?

Billboard then reached out to Moby to ask “hey, Moby, say you did play the inauguration ceremony – what tracks would you spin?”
Moby answered. Check out the hypothetical inauguration playlist (least sexy name for a playlist everrr) he made for Billboard, which features songs such as ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day and ‘Self Destruction’ (are we seeing a pattern emerge here?), below.
