Yesterday was a day of an incredible paradigm shift. It all started with a woman sharing a photo on McVitie’s Facebook wall, asking a question we all thought we knew the answer to.
“Which is the top of this yummy McVites chocolate hobnob? The chocolatey side or the nobby side?”, asked Keely Mary Perryman who was stuck at a dead-end over the very important debate regarding how to hold the delicious treat right.
McVities did honour her question with an answer but shattered all that we believed in with it. Turns out, when it comes to McVities biscuits, the sunny side up is not the right way to hold it – the chocolate goes at the bottom! Here’s what McVities wrote:
‘’Hi, our Hobnobs goes through a reservoir of chocolate, so it’s on the bottom! Thanks, McVitie’s.”
Within seconds, pandemonium broke out on the Facebook thread, with an army of heartbroken, disbelief-struck reacting to the high-tea blasphemy.
While some, hoping against hope, argued with McVities with their own homegrown logic…
When the matter was taken straight to the McVities headquartees, Marketing Director Kerry Owens put an end to the controversy. Here’s what he told metro.co.uk that destroyed any last hopes of our whole lives not being a lie.
“When we make our McVitie’s chocolate biscuits – whether that be Chocolate Hobnobs, Chocolate Digestives, or even Jaffa Cakes – they go through a reservoir of chocolate on the production line. This essentially enrobes the bottom in chocolate – so we can confirm that the chocolate is officially on the bottom of the biscuits.”
Next they’ll say Santa’s not real, and babies don’t come from pelicans who drop them at your doorstep. Pfft. Whatever.
