Ellen DeGeneres will be charming the crème de la crème of Hollywood as the host of the Academy Awards, 2014. This will be DeGeneres’ 2nd outing as the emcee of the most anticipated awards in the world after her popular run in 2007.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced its new President, Cheryl Boone Isaacs. Her top priority on the 1st day of the job was finalizing who will grace the stage at the 86th annual Oscars. Isaacs and her crew unanimously narrowed down on Ellen DeGeneres.
After the critically panned, yet commercially well-received, edgy performance by Seth MacFarlane at Oscars, 2013, Ellen DeGeneres will pick up the pieces with her familiar, light-hearted humour. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Family Guy creator is the highest-grossing Oscar emcee, pulling in 40.3 million viewers, and Ellen comes at a close 2nd with an audience of 39.9 million.
The TV host demonstrated her quick wit on Twitter by saying, “It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra.” Even Ellen DeGeneres’ official statement was laced with humour: “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say – the third time’s the charm.”
