27 February 2018

The BRIT Awards is undoubtedly the biggest night of the year for British music and it never lets us down.

The annual celebration has given us countless iconic performances and controversial moments over the years and this year was no different.

From Stormzy’s Prime Minister-cancelling freestyle to Little Mix winning nothing (WHAT?!), there were plenty of moments to keep us entertained.

All of our faves hit up the red carpet with white roses to support the Time’s Up movement, just weeks after the GRAMMYs and Oscars took a stand against sexism and sexual assault in the entertainment industry. Anne-Marie, Camila Cabello and Dua Lipa were just a few to carry real roses on the famous carpet, while Ed Sheeran, Mabel and Troye Sivan opted for the custom white rose pins.

The 2018 Dua Lipa awards, tbh

Dua Lipa pretty much won the BRITs before it even happened. Her five nominations made her the most-nominated female artist in BRITs history and she won two of them. Then, as if that’s not badass enough, she turned it out on stage with one of the most memorable performances in recent years as she brought the ’New Rules’ video to life. As Troye Sivan said on the red carpet, “she’s the Prom Queen of this prom.

Little Mix walk away empty handed

In the biggest shock of the night, Little Mix didn’t win either of their nominations. Their massive hit single ’Touch’ was up for both British Single Of The Year and British Video of The Year but lost in both categories. The girls won their first BRIT Award last year when ’Shout Out To My Ex’ was chosen as the British Single Of The Year. We think ‘Touch’ was robbed, to be quite honest.

Liam Gallagher pays tribute to manchester bombing

Liam Gallagher performed a tear-jerking tribute to the victims of the Manchester bombing that happened at Ariana Grande’s concert last May. Grande was reportedly set to perform during this segment originally, however due to an illness she unfortunately had to pull out at the last minute. Luckily, the Oasis legend was more than capable of filling in as he performed ‘Live Forever’ and brought the star-studded audience to tears in memory of the angels lost.

Stormzy wins album of the year

Stormzy deserves the world never mind a BRIT Award but he’s one step closer after he won the two biggest BRITs of the night. The King Of Grime beat out Ed Sheeran for British Male Solo Artist and later won the coveted award for MasterCard British Album of the Year for his debut Gang Signs & Prayer. What a legend. Congrats!

Stormzy confronts Theresa May in major freestyle

Okay, Stormzy needs two points because his performance left Twitter in absolute shambles. Just moments after winning Album of the Year, he took to the stage to perform a medley of his two biggest hits, ‘Big for Your Boots’ and ‘Blinded by Your Grace, Pt. 2’ (sans MNEK, why?).

This already would’ve been epic but he made it even more special with a freestyle in between, during which he called out Theresa May’s reaction to Grenfell, asking how she’d cope if her house burned down. It was a moment that gave us all goosebumps and one for the BRITs history books. Give. Stormzy. EVERYTHING.

Liam Payne and Cheryl are still together (and oversharing)

Don’t believe everything you read! Liam Payne and Cheryl put the split rumours to rest by attending the BRITs together and revealed some details about their relationship we could’ve done without, quite frankly. When asked by the host Jack if they have a safe word for the bedroom, Cheryl said: “Don’t stop.” Right. Let’s hope Bear never finds out about this.

Kendrick Lamar surprised everyone with his brits debut performance

Now, we love Kendrick Lamar – who doesn’t? – but we have questions (Camila Cabello reference). Was the start of his performance genuine technical issues? Or was he trolling us? After performing ‘FEEL.’, he was joined by Rich The Kid to perform their banging collaboration ‘New Freezer’ and it was absolutely massive.

Harry Styles makes brits history

Harry Styles made BRIT Awards history tonight as he received the award for British Video Of The Year for the fifth year in a row, the most of any act. While it marked his first solo win, One Direction have dominated this category since it returned in 2014. He beat out his former bandmates Zayn Malik and Liam Payne, Ed Sheeran and Little Mix. Congrats, Haz!
