We finally have a date, Sonic fans – the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is coming to a screen near you on November 15, 2019.

Originally we’d been expecting the world’s most famous hedgehog to hit the big screen later this year, but the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the film has slipped to next year.

The Sonic The Hedgehog movie will hit cinemas in 2019 / Sega

The script is from the people behind animated series Golan The Insatiable – Pat Casey and Josh Miller – and executively-produced by Deadpool director, Tim Miller. The director will be Jeff Fowler.

According to the Reporter, “Paramount is planning a mix of live action and CGI to bring the character to life”, which suggests we’ll see a CGI Sonic speeding around a live-action world. As yet, we’re not sure which of Sonic’s friends we might get to see in the movie, too.

Sonic first appeared in a Sega game waaaay back in 1991, and has since gone on to become the company’s mascot and a rival to Nintendo’s super famous plumber, Mario. Over it’s 26 year span, the Sonic series has sold a staggering 360 million copies across a whole range of different platforms, including Sega’s own Mega Drive, of course.
